A Faith-Based Rehab Legacy Transforming Lives

In 1958, 26-year-old preacher David Wilkerson read about a New York gang homicide trial in Life Magazine and felt driven by faith to help. He traveled to Manhattan to spread the Gospel with the defendants but was expelled from the court, earning publicity as the “Bible Preacher.” Seeing the destruction of narcotics on youth, he founded Teen Challenge in 1960 to assist gang members and addicts through God’s miraculous strength. His 1962 publication, The Cross and the Switchblade, has circulated over 16 million copies and was converted into a 1972 film. Teen Challenge has since evolved into a global Christian rehab network, including Great Lakes Adult & Teen Challenge, offering faith-based addiction recovery for men, women, and teens.

Now, I work as an intern in the intake department for Adult & Teen Challenge and stand on Isaiah 40:31: “But those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength.”.
