He journeyed to Manhattan to spread the Gospel with the accused but was ejected from the courtroom, earning news as the “Bible Preacher.” Seeing the ruin of narcotics on youth, he founded Teen Challenge in 1960 to reach gang members and addicts through God’s transformative power. His 1962 publication, The Cross and the Switchblade, has sold over 16 million copies and was modified into a 1972 movie. Teen Challenge has since grown into a global Christian rehab network, including Great Lakes Adult & Teen Challenge, offering faith-based addiction recovery for men, women, and teens.
